This is the Red-bellied Newt, Taricha rivularis, which breed locally in Austin Creek in Sonoma County, California. These photos were taken 3/27/98 2.5 miles North of the town of Cazadero directly below the bridge seen in the photo on the previous page.

Of note is the flattened tail of the male which indicates breeding condition.
